How Can You Put Music In Your Life?

Written by DrumSetDude

All of us has a different story to tell. Some of us may have been accomplished musicians while others simply enjoyed listening to all different types of music. It doesn’t matter where you were at when it happened. The fact is it did happen. For one reason or another, we got distracted from the joy music brought us by the marching on of time and circumstances. We left it behind certain that we’d get back to it eventually.

That day never came…until now.

Where Did This All Start?

My goal in writing this blog is to help everybody regain the love of music they once possessed. It doesn’t matter to me which end of the musical scale you are from. A life without music in it to me is a life half-lived and is not an acceptable existence. There is too much written about music therapy to dismiss its restorative power. I want to help you see how much it once meant to you and can mean again. It’s never too late to get it back.

This blog will also tell the story of my journey from occasional listener to music student. I hope that some part of my experience will help you in your journey as well.

How Do We Define Having Music In Our Lives?

I have chosen five goals to help us measure the music in our lives. They are:

  1. Listening to music
  2. Attending live performances
  3. Resuming playing or singing on a regular basis
  4. Resuming singing or playing lessons
  5. Learning a new or first instrument

Please understand-these are NOT intended to be a progression. For some it will be but my main goal was to give you guidelines that help you define what bringing music back into your life means. For a person that never played an instrument before it may mean the world to you to simply set aside a part of your day to listen to the music that’s special to you.

My main point is that there is no right answer here. Myself, I will start out by setting aside regular time to catch up on stuff I haven’t heard in a while. At some point, I will be trying to learn an instrument again. The most important thing we all can do right now is set a goal for ourselves and work to make it happen.

Over the next few blog posts I will be taking a look at each of the different goals and discuss ways that you can make each one a reality. From there, I hope you will help me choose topics you’d like to see covered.

Until then, fire up your iPod and listen to something you can’t remember the last time you heard.
